Clutch drop

Clutch drop

Clutch drop is an eye drop container engineered to release a precise, single drop with each press, unlike conventional bottles that rely on variable pressure and often dispense too much at once. Its fresh, modern aesthetic offers an appealing look, making it both highly functional and visually distinctive.

When I first used eye drops, I found them difficult to handle, which led me to take on this project. During my research, particularly with older users, I discovered that the main issue is the inconsistent pressure required between bottles, which worsens as the liquid level decreases, making it harder to dispense accurately over time.

To address these problems, I ideated various concepts and created mockups for user testing right from the start.

I drew inspiration from clutch pencils, aiming to adapt that mechanism for eye drop bottles. Curious about their internal workings, I studied them and experimented with creating an attachment compatible with standard OTC eye drops.

This concept became the proof of idea, leading to the name "Clutch Drop." I tested the design with a user who uses eye drops multiple times a day, and the results were promising.

This was my first design project, and I wanted to tackle something personal—hence the focus on eye drops, which I had struggled with myself. Through this process, I quickly learned the value of iteration and how crucial user feedback is in refining a design. Seeing users appreciate the final design was rewarding.
