DINO TOOL>
The Tiny Dino Tool is an everyday carry (EDC) product shaped like a dinosaur and crafted from stainless steel. It functions as a hex wrench, serrated saw, bottle opener, flathead screwdriver, and ruler, all in one compact design. Additionally, it serves as a platform for attaching various 3D-printed modules, making it highly customizable and adaptable to different lifestyles.
Materials: Stainless steel 304, PLA, PETG

Designed for makers, designers, and enthusiasts, the Dino Tool encourages community-building. As an open-source product, it has fostered a community of designers, engineers, and artists across India, who actively contribute modules.

To test the concept's reach, I launched the "Rex-cessorize" community challenge. To my surprise, around 15 participants created functional prototypes within just one week. All of these designs are available for free download from the Dinoverse.

The Dino Tool underwent numerous iterations, resulting in over 50 versions. I worked extensively with metal prototyping techniques, while the conceptualization phase focused on rapid vector-based ideation. Initial tests used acrylic, and 3D printing refined the form and functionality.

The packaging for the Dino Tool is as playful as the tool itself. Designed with sustainability in mind, it transforms into a detachable bookmark after unboxing, reducing waste while adding value for users.

This project was an attempt to make an EDC tool fun and cool, inspired by my broader goal of reimagining everyday objects through the lens of a philosophy I developed called "TOJO." Along the way, I learned the importance of rapid prototyping and faced the challenges of bringing a product to life—despite its technical simplicity. I cherished the countless hours spent printing with PETG and PLA, but the most rewarding part was seeing the users' reactions. Their satisfaction made all the hard work feel effortless in the end.
